Esso facts:

Esso Norge AS is a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation in the USA and has a long and proud history in Norway. The company was established in Norway in 1893 and now has its headquarters at Slagentangen near Tønsberg. The refinery at Slagentangen was inaugurated in 1961 and for 60 years, petroleum products were refined at the facility. In the summer of 2021, Esso discontinued refinery operations. The facility now functions as a fuel terminal and will ensure reliable supply of liquid fuel to all of Norway. Products are now imported to the terminal at Slagentangen and then redistributed by ship from Slagentangen to the company’s and customers’ terminals along the entire Norwegian coast. In addition, products are distributed by tank truck directly from Slagentangen. Since 2007, the company has also blended renewable biofuels into the products we deliver to the Norwegian market, and in December 2021, Esso purchased a 49.9% stake in Biojet AS, a company that plans to produce biofuels from wood waste.
